Weather Forecast for Boise: A Chilly Weekend Ahead

As the week comes to a close before Christmas, residents of Boise can expect a chilly weekend with temperatures dropping significantly from Friday to Saturday. According to forecasts, afternoon high temps will plummet by 5-15° during this period, leaving many towns and cities stuck in the lower 30s.

A cold front is expected to sweep across the region, bringing brisk winds, a few showers, and a notable temperature drop. While some issues may arise on Saturday, above-average temperatures are still within the forecast throughout the week. The Magic Valley and Mini-Cassia Region can anticipate afternoon highs in the middle to upper 40s, while the Wood River Valley is expected to see upper 30s and lower 40s.

If you have any last-minute shopping or outdoor chores/activities planned before Christmas, the weather shouldn't pose a problem. However, residents living in higher terrain areas may be lucky to receive an inch or two of snow, while valley locations are looking at a rain/snow hybrid that won't amount to much.

While showers are possible through Friday, precipitation levels around Southern Idaho will remain low throughout the workweek. Additionally, a lack of wind could lead to decreased air quality, so residents are advised to reduce idling their cars and avoid outdoor burns/fires. This condition is expected to improve once breezy weather returns and breaks the inversion.

Residents of Twin Falls, Jerome, and Gooding Counties (among others) should note that an air stagnation advisory remains in effect until 11 PM on Monday evening. Overall, while the weekend may be chilly, it's still a great time to get out and enjoy some winter activities before Christmas arrives.
